Is It Time for New Leadership at Lynton & Lynmouth Town Council?

In a week already rocked by the sudden resignation of Councillor Michael Bell, another potential change may be quietly unfolding behind the scenes at Lynton & Lynmouth Town Council.

A recent update on LinkedIn suggests that Town Clerk Kevin Harris is now “#OpenToWork”—a status typically reserved for those actively seeking new employment. If accurate, this could signal the end of an era. After almost 13 years in post, is Mr. Harris preparing to step away?

During his lengthy tenure, Mr. Harris has been a central figure in the workings of the council—sometimes contentiously so. Concerns around stonewallingpolicy blocking, and a culture of control have been raised multiple times by councillors and members of the public alike. While some have praised his knowledge of procedure, others have felt that his influence has stifled progresssilenced new ideas, and restricted transparency.

So, is it time for a fresh start?

Our town faces serious challenges—affordable housing, economic sustainability, community engagement—and it’s vital that council leadership reflects openness, collaboration, and forward thinking. Perhaps what’s needed now is a new voice: someone who can help guide our councillors with integrity, impartiality, and genuine community focus.

If Kevin Harris is indeed preparing to move on, the Town Council has an important decision ahead. It’s not just about filling a role—it’s about choosing the kind of leadership and future we want for Lynton and Lynmouth.
