Is Lynton and Lynmouth's Bus Service at Risk?
Why is the Town Council Keeping You in the Dark?
Brand New Buses – But Will They Last?
In September 2024, County Councillor Andrea Davis announced fantastic news: £1.5 million invested in 12 brand-new Optare ‘Solo’ buses for North Devon, including the 309 and 310 routes. These modern buses brought earlier and later journeys, improved connections, and positive feedback from passengers who said we’d finally entered the 21st century!
But Here’s the Problem…
Despite these improvements, the Government insist that passenger numbers MUST increase to justify ongoing funding. Worse still, the new government hasn’t confirmed if the Bus Improvement Plan funding will continue—putting our local routes at risk.
And just to make things harder? In December, the fare cap jumped from £2 to £3, hitting rural communities like ours the hardest. Councillor Davis called this decision deeply unfair—but where was our Town Council in this fight?
Why Did the Town Council Stay Silent?
The Town Council knew about these updates in September 2024, yet they never told us. Why? This isn’t just an oversight—it’s a failure to communicate crucial, community-changing information. Do they not care about the future of Lynton’s bus services?
